There’s nothing small about the way this specialty retailer sets up shop. The company sells computers and consumer electronics through more than 20 stores in 15 states (including California, Ohio, and Texas) and online via its e-commerce site.
Business Goals & Benefits
This retailer needed the ability to accurately calculate sales and commissioning figures for store sales associates and provide management with access to historical reporting vie an easy to use interface with minimal administrative burden. Their legacy system form commissioning was difficult to maintain, had significant performance issues, and did not have the ability to accurately report on historical data. Their inability to account for customer product returns in their commissioning calculations was leading to inflated and inaccurate commission payments to sales associates. The business rules to accurately calculate commissions required complex logic and algorithms to adjust payments based on customer product returns, the relationship between the margin of products on the same sales ticket, and quantity of products sold on each ticket. They also had a need to analyze and rank sales associates based on productivity, revenue and margin performance.
After purchasing business intelligence software from MicroStrategy, the company engaged Southport to design and build a complete reporting solution for use by executive management and store managers.
